The human evidence linking prebiotics to immune function is indirect, microbiome-mediated, and inconsistent. The strongest available signal is a 58-study meta-analysis (PMID 34543378) showing reduced respiratory tract infection incidence (OR 0.73), but that benefit is driven almost entirely by infant and child populations, with adult data sparse and unreliable. The two influenza-vaccine antibody meta-analyses pool prebiotics together with probiotics, so a prebiotic-specific effect cannot be isolated, and both report high heterogeneity and undisclosed funding. Regulators are unsupportive of the claim: EFSA explicitly rejected prebiotic immune-function claims as not substantiated, the FDA has approved no immune health claim, and the CDC does not address prebiotics for immunity. 'Immune function' is itself a vague, non-validated consumer endpoint, and Examine has no coverage of this pairing at all. A C grade reflects weak, mixed surrogate-marker evidence that is real but far from establishing a reliable benefit.

結論:Pooled prebiotic/probiotic supplementation was associated with higher HI antibody titers for A/H1N1 (MD 7.14, 95% CI 2.73-11.55, P=0.002), A/H3N2 (MD 17.19, 95% CI 3.39-30.99, P=0.01) and B strain (MD 4.17, 95% CI 0.37-7.96, P=0.03). Authors noted high heterogeneity and that further studies are warranted.

Early supplementation of prebiotic oligosaccharides protects formula-fed infants against infections during the first 6 months of life

結論:Infants on the scGOS/lcFOS prebiotic formula had a lower cumulative incidence of any recurring infection (3.9% vs 13.5%) and recurring respiratory infections (2.9% vs 9.6%) versus placebo, and fewer total infectious episodes. Single small industry-relevant trial in an atopy-enriched population; results not consistently replicated (some multicentre trials found no difference in diarrhea/febrile infection incidence).
