硼 × 認知功能的人體證據幾乎不存在:唯一具認知終點的人體實驗為 USDA Penland 1994(PMID 7889884)三個小型受試者內交叉試驗,比較極低硼飲食(~0.25 mg/日,遠低於正常膳食)vs 充足硼(~3.25 mg/日),結果為 EEG 低頻波增加與多項認知任務(手眼協調、注意力、短期記憶)表現變差(p<0.05);此為『剝奪 paradigm』下之缺乏-vs-充足對比,不能外推至『高於正常膳食的補充劑能改善正常或受損認知』。
