FDA has no questions. The notice concerns conjugated linoleic acid isomers intended for use as an ingredient in certain specified foods within the general categories of soy milk, meal replacement beverages and bars, milk products and fruit juices at levels up to 3 grams per serving.

The Panel considers that the information provided does not establish that a reduction in body fat mass, when accompanied by an increase in markers of lipid peroxidation and inflammation, is a beneficial physiological effect for the target population.

For the purposes of these recommendations, TFA includes all fatty acids with a double bond in the trans configuration, regardless of whether the TFA come from ruminant sources or are produced industrially. [footnote 6:] This definition includes conjugated linoleic acid.
