The direction and rough magnitude of effect are highly consistent across the meta-analyses, and Examine grades LDL and TC at B on a pooled 12-study / 797-participant base, which converges with this picture. However, the constituent RCTs are small and short (often 4-12 weeks), measure only surrogate biomarkers rather than cardiovascular outcomes, vary widely in dose, strain and population, and have largely undisclosed funding so industry conflict of interest cannot be excluded. The effect size is also clinically modest relative to statins, HDL-C and triglyceride effects are null or inconsistent, and no major clinic (Mayo, Cleveland, Harvard) or society (AHA, NLA) endorses or even mentions chlorella for cholesterol. On the totality, the consistent positive surrogate-marker evidence is enough for a B but no higher, sitting at the B/C border because of the small short trials, surrogate-only outcomes and absence of any institutional endorsement.
