Inulin-type fructans supplementation improves glycemic control for the prediabetes and type 2 diabetes populations: results from a GRADE-assessed systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of 33 randomized controlled trials
PMID: 31805963 2019 統合分析 n = 1,346
Finding: Inulin-type fructans significantly reduced FBG (WMD -0.60 mmol/L, 95% CI -0.71 to -0.48; high-quality GRADE) and HbA1c (WMD -0.58%, 95% CI -0.83 to -0.32, P<0.00001; high-quality GRADE), with effect concentrated in prediabetes/T2DM at >=10 g/day for >=6 weeks; insulin and HOMA-IR effects were low-quality.
🟢 High quality Effect size: FBG WMD -0.60 mmol/L (95% CI -0.71, -0.48; high GRADE); HbA1c WMD -0.58% (95% CI -0.83, -0.32; high GRADE)

Effects of Prebiotic and Synbiotic Supplementation on Glycaemia and Lipid Profile in Type 2 Diabetes: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
PMID: 30607329 2018 統合分析 n = 506
Finding: Pooled prebiotic/synbiotic supplementation lowered FBG (WMD -11.74 mg/dL, 95% CI -23.04 to -0.44, P<0.05) and HbA1c (WMD -0.49%, 95% CI -0.77 to -0.21, P<0.05); in the prebiotic-only subgroup FBG fell -12.40 mg/dL (95% CI -15.86 to -8.94, P<0.0001) and HbA1c -0.47% (95% CI -0.80 to -0.13, P<0.0001), while the synbiotic-glucose subgroup was non-significant.
Effect size: Prebiotic subgroup: FBG WMD -12.40 mg/dL (95% CI -15.86, -8.94); HbA1c WMD -0.47% (95% CI -0.80, -0.13)

The effects of inulin-type fructans on cardiovascular disease risk factors: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
PMID: 38309832 2024 統合分析 n = 2,518
Finding: Inulin-type fructans produced only small reductions in LDL-C (MD -0.14 mmol/L, 95% CI -0.24 to -0.05; very low certainty), triglycerides (MD -0.06 mmol/L, 95% CI -0.12 to -0.01; low certainty) and body weight (MD -0.97 kg, 95% CI -1.28 to -0.66; low certainty), with little to no significant effect on other CVD risk factors, indicating the downstream cardiometabolic benefit is modest and low-certainty.
Effect size: LDL-C MD -0.14 mmol/L (95% CI -0.24, -0.05; very low CoE); triglycerides MD -0.06 mmol/L (95% CI -0.12, -0.01); body weight MD -0.97 kg (95% CI -1.28, -0.66)

Probiotics and synbiotics supplementation improve glycemic control parameters in subjects with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus: A GRADE-assessed systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression of randomized clinical trials
PMID: 35987483 2022 統合分析 n = 3,067
Finding: Probiotics/synbiotics significantly reduced FPG (WMD -11.18 mg/dL, 95% CI -13.60 to -8.75, P<0.001), HbA1c (WMD -0.35%, 95% CI -0.44 to -0.26, P<0.001), HOMA-IR (WMD -0.87, 95% CI -1.09 to -0.65, P<0.001) and fasting insulin (WMD -1.23 uIU/mL, 95% CI -1.76 to -0.71, P<0.001); relevant only as adjacent gut-microbiome evidence since the prebiotic component is bundled with live bacteria.
🟠 Limited quality Effect size: FPG WMD -11.18 mg/dL (95% CI -13.60, -8.75); HbA1c WMD -0.35% (95% CI -0.44, -0.26)
