Finding: G. biloba had no ascertainable positive effects on targeted cognitive functions in healthy individuals; effect sizes non-significant and near zero for memory (d=-0.04), executive function (d=-0.05), and attention (d=-0.08).

Ginkgo biloba for preventing cognitive decline in older adults: a randomized trial
PMID: 20040554 2009 RCT (double-blind) n = 3,069
Finding: GEM Study cognitive sub-analysis: annual rates of decline did not differ between G. biloba and placebo across any cognitive domain in community-dwelling older adults including those with normal cognition (P>.05).

Safety and efficacy of a ginkgo biloba-containing dietary supplement on cognitive function, quality of life, and platelet function in healthy, cognitively intact older adults
PMID: 17324660 2007 RCT (double-blind) n = 90
Finding: In cognitively intact older adults, the supplement did not improve cognition or quality of life; one of six cognitive tests showed significance favouring placebo (P=0.03). Appeared safe.

The effect of Ginkgo biloba on memory in healthy male volunteers
PMID: 11495672 2001 RCT (double-blind) n = 60
Finding: In healthy young male volunteers, nonsignificant treatment effects on all memory tests except the Sternberg Memory Scanning Test; extract was safe but largely ineffective at enhancing memory.
