Hair regrowth treatment efficacy and resistance in androgenetic alopecia: A systematic review and continuous Bayesian network meta-analysis
Finding: Dutasteride 0.5 mg increased terminal hair density by 18.37 TH/cm^2 vs placebo at 24 weeks (statistically significant); finasteride 1 mg gave 12.38 TH/cm^2 but lost significance at 24 weeks. Dutasteride ranked among the top pharmacological treatments; direct dutasteride vs finasteride contrast did not reach significance, but dutasteride showed stronger magnitude.
View on PubMed The efficacy and safety of dutasteride compared with finasteride in treating men with androgenetic alopecia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Finding: Dutasteride produced a mean hair-count increase of +28.57 hairs vs finasteride (95% CI 18.75 to 38.39, p<0.00001); sexual adverse-event rates were comparable between groups.
View on PubMed Effectiveness and Safety of Intralesional Dutasteride in Patients With Androgenic Alopecia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Finding: Pooled improvement rate 75% (95% CI 56-88%, p<0.0001); pooled hair-density mean difference -1.37 (95% CI -16.89 to 14.15) — wide CI crossing zero, so improvement signal is driven by responder-rate proportions rather than density MD; well tolerated with minimal local AEs.
View on PubMed Long-term safety and efficacy of dutasteride in the treatment of male patients with androgenetic alopecia
Finding: Target-area hair count, hair width, and investigator global appearance all improved from baseline at week 52 (open-label, no comparator); drug-related AE rate 17% (nasopharyngitis, ED, decreased libido), none caused withdrawal.
