Treatments for alopecia areata: a network meta-analysis
Finding: Across 63 RCTs (4817 participants) NO oral minoxidil trials were identified and topical minoxidil showed only very-low-certainty benefit (RR 2.31, 95% CI 1.34-3.96, 2 studies), while baricitinib was the only treatment with high-certainty regrowth (RR 7.54).

Oral Minoxidil comes as a tablet in 2.5 mg, 5 mg, or 10 mg strengths. Although some studies have shown that low doses of oral minoxidil on its own have helped hair regrow, it is most often used in combination with other treatments, such as intralesional corticosteroids or JAK inhibitors.
